Hyundai Doosan Infracore Co., a construction machinery subsidiary of HD Hyundai Group, announced on Tuesday that its 14-ton hybrid electric wheel excavator 14W extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) received the "SaMoTeR Innovation Award" in Italy.

The SaMoTeR Innovation Award is an award given by Veronafiere, an Italian trade fair organization that hosts SaMoTeR, an international exhibition of construction equipment specialists, to select equipment with innovative technology.

This is the first international award for Hyundai Doosan Infracore after changing its construction machinery brand name to DEVELON.

The 14W EREV excavator that received the innovation award features a compact design that reduces engine and related parts by installing a battery and motor. It is convenient to work in narrow spaces and buildings and improves safety by securing a 360-degree driver’s view.

The traction and maneuverability are improved by using an electric motor, and the main functions of the excavator such as driving, turning and pump operation are electrified to increase efficiency. The diesel engine is used only for generator purposes, improving fuel efficiency by more than 20%.

Hyundai Doosan Infracore plans to showcase various construction equipment products including the 14W EREV at the SaMoTeR exhibition in Verona, Italy, in May.
