South Korea’s largest auto parts maker Hyundai Mobis Co. and Swiss technology company Luxoft have jointly developed an advanced in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system for next-generation vehicles.

Hyundai Mobis, a unit of Hyundai Motor Group, said on Monday it will showcase the new IVI platform at the International Suppliers Fair, known as IZB Auto Show, to be held in Germany on Oct. 11.

Under the partnership, Hyundai Mobis has offered its integrated system control technology and auto parts making know-how, while Luxoft, a DXC Technology company headquartered in Switzerland, has provided its software technology for the digital cockpit, connectivity and autonomous driving.

The new platform, dubbed Mobis Infotainment System (MIS), can fully control six displays – the digital cluster, augmented reality heads-up display (AR-HUD), center stack display and three displays for passenger seats, according to Hyundai.

AIM TO STAY AHEAD OF RIVALS

The Hyundai IVI will focus on providing personalized services such as a virtual personal assistant and artificial intelligence (AI)-based customized content, it said.

The Korean company said it will jointly seek opportunities to sell the new product to carmakers around the world.

Carsten Weiss, vice president and head of Hyundai Mobis IVI Lab, said the partnership will help Hyundai Mobis further enhance its presence in the future mobility parts market.

Hyundai Mobis, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Co., has been actively developing in-vehicle infotainment systems on its own and in cooperation with its partners to keep ahead of its rivals in the future mobility sector.

The company said in February it will spend up to 8 trillion won ($6.7 billion) over the next three years on its future growth drivers such as auto chips, robotics and urban air mobility.

More recently, the company said in June it has developed the Smart Cabin Controller, an integrated controller in the cockpit that monitors a driver’s health condition for safer driving.
