LG Elec sweeps 1st place in Best Washers chosen by US consumers

LG Electronics Inc. swept this year's top spot in all major categories of best washing machines evaluated by Consumer Reports, a leading US consumer magazine.

According to industry sources on Monday, Consumer Reports ranked LG Electronics' washer models first in all three categories: front load, top load, and agitator. LG Electronics took first, second and third place in the premium front-load washing machines category.

The company's top loaders earned both first and second place, and the agitator, a low-end product category, also swept first through third places.

These three washing machine types account for 90% of the US washing machine market.

In the niche category of small front-load washing machine, Miele took first place.

Consumer Reports ranks an array of consumer items, including home appliances sold in the United States, based on surveys of consumers who use them as well as rigorous independent tests.

Consumer Reports spoke highly of the LG Tromm washer, which took first place in the front-load washer category, for being very quiet and with excellent cleaning power, as well as for having the highest water and energy efficiency.

Late last year, in a Consumer Reports evaluation of "Best Washing Machine and Dryer Combos," LG Electronics earned nine of the 11 best combos.
