South Korea’s KT Corp. is set to commercialize a super artificial intelligence (AI) tool in the first half of this year, according to industry sources on Tuesday.

The upcoming model is believed to have greater or at least equivalent processing capabilities to ChatGPT launched by Microsoft-backed OpenAI last November.

The telecom service provider is now promoting its AI service MI:DEUM to financial services companies.

MI:DEUM is based on OpenAI's GPT-3 model, the most powerful language processing AI tool.

KT’s AI model has 200 billion parameters or more. GPT-3 has 175 billion machine learning parameters.

The more parameters a deep learning model has, the more information the super-scale AI can process.

MI:DEUM is capable of generating natural conversation with Korean speakers and doing math calculations. ChatGPT is relatively weak in Korean language services.

KT’s super AI will be able to answer real-time questions and give investment tips, instead of repeating prepared answers. It can also summarize newspaper articles.

The super AI service is expected to help the Korean telecom giant better compete with data services companies and online platforms such as Naver Corp.

KT has formed an AI alliance with domestic startups such as AI chip developer Rebellions and AI infrastructure provider Moreh through KT Cloud.

MI:DEUM is equipped with hardware and software developed by those domestic startups.
