South Korea's environment-focused energy company SK Ecoplant Co. on Thursday said it added a base for recycling electrical and electronic waste and discarded batteries in North America through its Singapore-based subsidiary TES.

TES has launched in Las Vegas its newly completed plant for IT asset disposal (ITAD) covering 3,700 square meters.

The plant is TES USA's fourth base in the US following those in Seattle, Atlanta and Fredericksburg, Virginia.

When disposing of IT assets such as devices like smartphones and PCs and data center equipment, the company plans to mainly conduct ITAD to completely erase the information stored in them.

ITAD entails not only destruction of information but also the process of recycling and reusing IT assets in an eco-friendly way.

The ultimate goal of ITAD is to minimize the volume of waste IT assets and reuse them.

TES also has waste battery recycling facilities in France, China and Singapore and is building similar centers in Rotterdam, a Dutch port that is one of the largest in Europe, and the west side of Sydney, Australia.
