Samsung Electronics Co. has partnered with South Korean government to transfer patented technologies free of charge in an effort to support the growth and innovation of small- and middle-sized enterprises (SMEs) in South Korea, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) announcement on Monday.

The MOTIE has been promoting technology sharing since 2013 for SME's to improve their competitiveness by making good use of the technologies that are not currently being applied with the cooperation of large corporations, and it's Samsung Electronics' turn to share.

Since its launch in 2013, the project has already transferred 2,979 technologies from 33 large and state-run companies to 1,416 SMEs.

This year, Samsung Electronics will release 272 proprietary technologies across eight fields, including mobile devices, semiconductor components, displays and medical equipment.

Samsung Electronics has been participating in technology sharing since 2015 and has already provided 959 patents to 502 companies free of charge.

SMEs that are interested in participating in the program can submit their application forms via email from April 11 to May 12. After that, an evaluation committee will select the successful applicants to receive the patent rights free of charge.
