Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. are set to attend Europe's biggest tech trade fair and biggest motor show, IFA and IAA Mobility, respectively. The two South Korean companies seek to spur their auto electronics and equipment development businesses, eyed as their future cash cows, and move beyond mainstay home appliances.

Samsung, the world’s top TV maker, will hold a press conference in Berlin on Aug. 31 and share the concept of its IFA exhibition at the Sept. 1-5 tech show where around 2,100 firms will join.

The electronics giant will unveil Samsung Food, a user-customized meal preparation platform that provides recipes and healthy diet information, and operate the Smart Things Experience Zone, where visitors can try Samsung’s Internet of Things (IoT) platform that connects multiple electronic devices.

Both Samsung and LG will also exhibit their flagship TV products for the second half of this year.

Samsung will showcase 98-inch QLED TV, its quantum light-emitting dioxide panel TV launched in July. It will also exhibit the Frame-Disney100 Edition, which offers content from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel, Lucasfilm and National Geographic.

LG will introduce StandbyME Go, a portable screen that can be used both indoors and outdoors in places such as camping sites.

AUTO ELECTRONICS, EQUIPMENT

The two tech behemoths will participate in IAA Mobility for the first time to gain momentum in their auto electronics businesses. Global automakers, car parts suppliers and tech firms will gather to showcase their products and discuss future mobility businesses at the event, to be held Sept. 5-10 in Munich.

Samsung’s device solution division, which includes the mainstay semiconductor business, will operate a booth with display panel maker Display Co. and battery producer Samsung SDI Co. The three companies will introduce their automotive memory and storage solutions, image sensors, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels and batteries.

Samsung will offer reliable solutions and foster a collaborative ecosystem, all with the goal of creating a safer, more sustainable and more connected mobility experience for its customers, the electronics giant stated on the IAA Mobility website.

Chief Executive Cho Joo-wan will give a speech on Sept. 4 about LG’s automobile electronics and equipment business and its vision.

It aims to become a global top 10 vehicle component maker; doubling its revenue to 20 trillion won by 2030. The order backlog of LG’s vehicle component division is expected to reach 100 trillion won by the end of this year, CEO Cho said last month
