Carbon neutrality

South Korea's SK Siltron announced on Tuesday that it has signed a business agreement with Taiwan's DRAM supplier Nanya Technology Corporation to strengthen collaboration in ESG (environmental, social and governance) and carbon neutrality.

Under this agreement, both companies will share carbon footprint-related data and jointly establish a standardized platform to measure greenhouse gas emissions generated during manufacturing.

Both companies plan to identify the main causes of greenhouse gas emissions through this platform and explore effective solutions to reduce their carbon footprint. SK Siltron has set a goal to achieve net-zero emissions (net carbon emissions of 0) by 2040 and aims to become a low-carbon wafer manufacturer.

Nanya Technology, one of the world's top-four DRAM companies, has set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% compared to 2020 levels by 2030.

Furthermore, both received the highest leadership rating in the climate change and water management categories from the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), a global sustainability assessment organization, last year.

"As a leading semiconductor wafer supplier, we will continue to contribute to greenhouse gas reduction in the semiconductor industry in collaboration with our customers," said an SK Siltron official.
