A self-driving vehicle taking a passenger home and then docking into the building so that they can enter the house without being exposed to the outside world is not a far-off dream, so believes Hyundai Motor Co.

The top South Korean automaker on Monday unveiled its “Mobile Living Space” concept, a vision for future mobility living.

In a four-minute video, Hyundai showed a scenario in which a futuristic vehicle and a building are connected, allowing passengers to move freely between the two spaces.

Back in 2020, the company already unveiled its “Active House” concept, a similar idea of combining a vehicle with a building.

The latest vision, Hyundai said, is significant in that it contains specific technologies and patents that can be applied in practice.

According to the animated video, Hyundai has designed a gate structure that connects a vehicle to a building. The vehicle’s height is also adjustable to allow passengers to get in and out without bending down.

Rubber connectors that expand and contract are designed to block outside air without damaging the car or the building, Hyundai said.

The company said it has filed patents for 10 future mobility-related technologies in Korea and other countries.
